Remember Me By
Why do I have to die
To be remembered by
The prison
which is my mind
is open to no one
locked in my forever cage
staged and afraid
But once death come realized
Open your eyes!
you are remembered by
There’s a calendar date
A day just for you
to remember you
…but why do you care now
now that I’m gone and there’s nothing
left to do
but when I was trapped
with the bombs closing in
you did
nothing
and left me
to die
–
all so you could just
remember me by
This poem is very unedited and raw…. But it was an amalgamation of emotions regarding war in general and how society likes to immortalize tragedies and never associate the past with the present. Instead of using these moments to prevent more from being created we just keep creating new days to “remember them by”.
What did you think when you read this poem? What did it make you think of? How did it make you feel?
