I  just saw Dune Part 2 in theaters last weekend and its a definite 9/10!

The general message is about a hyper-futuristic world in which Paul Atreides finds his place, or some may say his “destiny” in this new life after losing his family and place on the throne. Revolution, Messiahs, powerful witches, politics, and planets all amalgamate to create the world of DUNE.

Cons:

  • Cultural Appropriation of Arab culture
  • Appropriation of Islam and Muslim prayer
  • The transition from Paul to becoming the Lisan Al-Gaib was really fast
  • Paul and Chani’s complete lack of communication after he becomes Lisan Al-Gaib
  • The weird baby thats talking through Jessica before being born (I just don’t see what she added to the story)
  • Feyd-Rautha and his bald head
  • Austin Butler who can’t pick a consistent accent throughout the movie

Pros:

  • Visually stunning in costume and set design as well as the editing
  • Sound team 10!, The music was entrapping me just woww!
  • Timothee Chalamet duh
  • Zendaya duh
  • Florence Pugh duh
  • I like the theme of destiny and the challenges that come with it
  • I like Chani and how her character is conflicted between her distrust of the messiah and her love for Paul
  • I like Princess Irulan and her calculating self
  • The battle scenes were visually stunning
  • “May thy knife chip and shatter”🔪🔪👿😐 “May thy knife chip and shatter”😤🖕🏻🫵🏻 I’m sorry that was so funny
  • “I must not fear, for fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings obliteration. And when the fear is gone, only I will remain” FIREEEE QUOTE like omggg

General questions:

  • Is Paul really the Kwisatz Haderach? Is the prophecy real or a made up story told by the Bene Gesserit to obtain power?
  • Is it’s fake, what is the purpose of the Bene Gesserit, why are they preparing for a fake messiah that they created?
  • Is the real Kwisatz Haderach Lady Jessica’s unborn baby (played by Anya Taylor-Joy)?
  • Will Chani stay with Paul despite him assuming the role of the Lisan Al-Gaib?
  • Why is there going to be a Holy War? Why don’t the other houses accept Paul’s ascendency when they all know the Emperor killed the Atreides House?
  • What will become of the Reverend Mother Gauis Helene after Paul becomes Emperor (she was an accessory to murder)?
  • Is Paul Duke of Caladan, Arrakis and the Harkonnen home planet Geidi Prime, since he killed Feyd-Rautha “the heir” or does it go to the cousin Glossu Rabban?

Overall, it was an epic film and I’m very excited for the next one. This movie is very abstract so some audiences may find it really weird and disturbing. I think its on par with Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord Of the Rings, Avengers:Infinity War, so if you like those you would probably like this movie.

What did you think of the movie?
