7.5/10

I don’t know why but this didn’t hit like the first one.

For those who don’t know, Insurgent is the second movie in the Divergent series and based on the second book in the Divergent series that goes by the same name.

This movie was pushing the plot forward, introduced some new characters but didn’t answer any of the questions I had from the first movie.

Spoilers Below

We learn that the core group didn’t go past the wall, they actually went to Amity and we learn a little bit about their life there as they are on the run from Erudite (which are still hunting Divergents by the way).

My question is… Why didn’t she just kill that bitch Jeanine in the first movie????

LIKEEEE…. You had a gun and y’all were able to mind control her (so she could stop the soon to be G-cide of Abnegation) so…. Why didn’t you finish the job?

Also, what the f*** is this box, and how was it in your house this whole time and y’all didn’t know?

What was the point of this experiment?

  • To lock up thousands of people in a cage,
  • manually divide them in order to weed out people who couldn’t be divided
  • so they can break out of said cage and save you bitches who put them in the cage in the first place????

How is that supposed to work? Sounds like a shit plan to me.

Also, that was 200 years ago…. Are you all just waiting around for some Divergents to save you for 200 years?

That seems excessive. Also, not just any Divergent, but only 100% Divergents can open the box, so what about the other Divergents who died…. so nobody cares about them. Okay right.

Also wtf is up with Tobias/Four’s mom?

  • (p.s. They never explained by he chose the name Four, I know they explained it in the book but still, it should’ve been in the movie)
  • (p.s. again… His name is Four because he has Four fears and it’s rare for a Dauntless to have such a small number of fears. His four fears are, heights, claustrophobia, shooting innocents, and his abusive father)

Why does he hate her so much? (I get it she left him at a young age due to Dad’s abuse and joined the Factionless, but like how was she supposed to raise a baby boy in there? Also, she came back once she got established, but he interpreted that as “oh she just wants to use me”)

Also, what was the big deal about Tris killing Will? It was self defense, I get abnegation isn’t about self preservation but like isn’t she Divergent? I don’t know it felt like a little too much of a plot point for a minor character death. If it was Christina I would understand.

Me to Will under the serum, Jeanine, Caleb, as well as any other wannabe Dauntless that tries to kill Tris  ⬇️

She was having such a hard time with the truth serum like girl, you’re supposed to be 100% everything, including Candor. Tell the truth, it’s not hard, you defended yourself, it’s okay.

Speaking of Christina… I almost didn’t recognize Zoe Kravitz here, she was so young and looked so different here, like a whole new person. Wow. Like I get that it was 10 years ago but still.

Also… during the fight scene, where she battles herself, I couldn’t get over Shailene Woodley’s inverted eyes the whole time. It was giving me goosebumps and taking me out of the movie. Like I know her eyes don’t look like that in real life but it kept giving me the hebejebes.

At the end, I like how they are all heading to the wall but does anyone know how to actually get out? It’s been locked for 200 years, how convenient that the box didn’t tell us how to join them or where they are outside the fence. Like the world is big honey, I need coordinates.

And side note but that scream she did while she was in the sim, jumping from building to building was mad funny, iykyk. Hehehehe

Also fuck Caleb. Why is he such a p**** a** bi****! Why did he go back to Erudite, after he literally left them in the first movie to join his parents when he found out about the killing spree, but he went back?????? What was the reason? And then his p**** a** excuse, talking about some, “I’m a real abnegation because I’m sacrificing my last family member for the future of the country” Naw all f*** that. That’s weak.

Peter….(side eye) I liked how he helped them in the end because he saw the sim and how Tris would save him, but he literally just sides with whoever would benefit him (because he realized how Jeanine would let him die), so its not actually because he is a good person. And why is Miles Teller playing a bi*** a** bully in every movie he’s in…

  • Exhibit A: Divergent series (3 whole movies)
  • Exhibit B: Top Gun Maverick
  • Exhibit C: The Spectacular Now
    • Shall I continue?

Like, why do they always make this man play a loud mouth bully in every movie??

Anyways, the movie could be suffering from middle-book (and therefore middle-movie) syndrome, and all these plot holes might finally be filled in the next movie Allegiant which will be the next review!

Stay tuned 🙂

What do you think of the movie?

Is middle-movie syndrome a thing?
