Currently watching this series to fulfill my October mood! Spooky Season is here and this show delivered!

(For those who don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about buckle up)
HEY YOU?
Yea YOUUUUU!

Do you like gays?
Do you like Black people?

DO YOU LIKE VAMPIRES?????
Then you came to the right fucking place!!!!!!
Welcome all to this coven that takes place in 1900s New Orleans, which is a remake of the original movie Interview With the Vampire 1994 with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, which is an adaptation of the book series Interview with the Vampire/ The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.

I never watched the movie,
I never read the books
but boy oh boy, do I love the show 🙂
I love this show with all my heart and soul. It is a beautiful gothic approach to discussing race, gender, sexuality, abuse, and morality with a hint of humor. The timeline jumps are done so well too. Taking place originally during the 2020 pandemic, and jumps back in time to understand the origins of our main character Louis De Pointe Du Lac and his tumultuous, beautifully gay and abusive relationship with Lestat De Lioncourt, a French Vampire Immigrant to New Orleans.

General thoughts and questions while watching…. SPOILERS BELOW obviously
- “It Girl” by Aaliyah is the song that describes these characters lowkey
- RIP Claudia you would love HBCUs (she looks like a Spelman girlie)

- Why is Lestat and Louis’s eyes blue and Claudia and Rashid’s eyes red?
- Does Rashid still believe in God? Does he fast during Ramadan? (he do be praying)
- How did Louis find Rashid?
- Why did Louis go to Dubai (a place with loads of sunlight)?
- Where is Claudia?
- How did the interviewer, Daniel, meet the vampire to begin with and why was he interested in the story?
So many questions that might be answered in season 2 who knows.
Also, I haven’t watched the movie so maybe they have a completely different take on these questions.
I say watch this for all the hilarious scenes and funny lines that sneak their way through the show. This is only a review for season 1 since it’s on Netflix but season 2 is out and there are rumors of an approved Season 3 in the works. Here’s an example:
Reactions and further analysis below:
- These are the cuntiest vampires I’ve ever seen in my life

- Lestat is definitely a Scorpio
- Lestat is obviously a horrible person and an abusive, controlling partner to Louis but I do see his point.
- Louis forced this child Claudia on Lestat against his will to give Louis some purpose and outlet to channel his redemption arc after causing a race war that kills hundreds of black people.
- Lestat should do more to understand Louis’s struggle as a black person in America and how giving him these Vampire powers doesn’t absolve him of the daily discrimination and marginalization he receives.
- Lestat should’ve also known that although Louis is a capitalist who benefits off of the suffering of women in his whore houses, he still abides by a moral code.
- Louis gives money to the church
- He allows a place of work for women of color with no options and no other ways to earn a living
- He provides upward mobility for people of color in his neighborhood
- He tries his best to save his family’s estate and take care of his schizophrenic brother
- I lowkey still believe that Lestat killed Louis’s brother in order to separate him from his family, I just don’t buy that a deeply religious man who knows the gospel would kill himself knowing that he would go to hell
- Also, fuck Louis’s mom for abandoning him after his brother’s death like Louis is your son too, that’s not fair to blame Louis for everything and shut him out
- It’s almost as if Lestat planned all of this so Louis can be vulnerable enough to enter into his trap
- Also killing the priest and everything was so unnecessary and sad.
- I wanted Louis to be able to finally confess his sins and seek solace in others since he has literally no friends.
- Lestat having the nerve to ask him if he wants to be a vampire after torturing him mentally and killing all his friends is not really an ask and we are going to get more into that later with Claudia.
- Louis gives money to the church
- Claudia oh Claudia aren’t you interesting.

- First of all can we just admire how beautiful she is omg!
- Ms. Bailey Bass you are marvelous
- Claudia is the first time Lestat has a challenge against his rules, his teachings and someone who isn’t instantly mesmerized by his manipulation
- Claudia represents full unabashed freedom, and when she is assaulted by the other vampire and eventually trapped by Lestat it is like the death of freedom, but it is okay bc she gets her lick back, which shows that “you can’t murder freedom” – Freddy Hampton

- We see that when Lestat says embrace who you are, embrace that you are a killer, and how louis refuses, it can almost be reminiscent of how Louis has lived in the closet all his life.
- He hides his gayness,
- he hides from his race to be seen in a better light amongst the rich white colleagues and business owners
- and now his vampire status,
- he doesn’t know how to embrace any part of himself without perpetual fear of repercussions
- You can also interpret Louis moral code of retaining respect for human life as his refusal to join the “upper class or the superior race”.
- The vampires {especially Lestat} have a hierarchical view of humanity as humans are below them and that they are just livestock to feed on, similar to how whites see African Americans as human forms of labor to be used and abused and Louis’s refusal to kill humans is also his refusal to join this upper echelon of human division and oppression.
- This whole show is such a good analysis of race, sexuality, class, and gender.
- Here are some cool moments and lines I can’t stop thinking of>>>>
Overall I loved this show and I can’t wait to finish Season 2!
For funsies, iykyk…>
